HBPB 12 & U Summer Champs

These start next weekend and good luck to the swimmers going from Sundevils.  Psych sheets have been sent out.  Hope you get great weather but remember to take some warm gear as well - the last couple of years swimmers have needed long jackets and thermals - I know hard to believe but true!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Happy New Year to everyone and I hope you all had a great break.

Congratulations to those that have completed hell week last week and I hope you enjoyed the breakfast put on by the club after the Saturday morning session. Thanks to Brenda and others for organising that.

CONGRATULATIONS - Kat Penny!!!!!!

Congratulations to Kat Penny on being named Dux of Havelock North High School for 2011.  Kat won this award against some other very talented students and she fully deserves this.  Kat recently completed NCEA Level 3 exams and last week she had 7 exams in 6 days - way to go Kat!!

Xmas Training

I will be sending an email out regarding training over the Xmas period when Andy and the other coaches have made decisions on what/where it will be.

Xmas Party

Our annual Sundevils Xmas party will be on Sunday 18th Feb from 5pm at Frimley Aquatic Centre.  BBQ dinner and drinks for children will be supplied - there is no cost.  Adults, if you wish to bring a drink please ensure that it is in plastic container(s) ONLY - no glass allowed.

If anyone has any special food requirements (allergies etc) please bring your own food.

We MUST have numbers of those attending, so please email Meryn on primosundevils@gmail.com and let her how many from each family will be attending - siblings of swimmers welcome - again NO cost - but we MUST have numbers by Wednesday 14th December.

We require the loan of 2 bbq's and a couple of trestle tables if possible.  If anyone has either that we can borrow, please contact Meryn as above and let her know.

Club nights

The recent club night went really well although we will be implementing a couple of changes before the next one.  The next club night is Friday 16th December - warmup at 5.30 & racing starts at 6pm.  More information to follow.

Other dates for club nights are:  13th Jan; 10th Feb & 16th March (although this March one is only tentative as it is an extremely busy month for swimmers & the club).

FOR SALE

I have rung the manufacturers and I hope to see the package in the next week - 10 days.  I will contact those that ordered when they arrive.

Lisa has put another order in for hoodies and we hope they won't be any more than a week or two.  Will let you know when they also arrive.

Comet Fast Water meet - Sat 3rd/Sun 4th Dec

The flyer for this meet is in the calendar section of the website.  Please note that this meet is now all day Saturday and Sunday morning so it will require 2 nights accommodation.  If you have made accommodation bookings already please change them.  Eligibility sheets for this meet are not up yet but will be very shortly.

Greendale Spring Meet - Sat 19/Sun 20th Nov

Waterworld temporary closure - Fri 23rd Sept 2011

Attached here is the media statement and attached here is the fact sheet regarding the closure of Flaxmere Waterworld today.

As soon as I have information on replacement training venues & times, I will email them out to everyone.

I do not know how long the pool is closed for but again as soon as I know anything, so will everyone else.

Thanks for your patience and forbearance while these problems are sorted out.

                        ----oooo0000oooo----

SwimHB Meet (Waipukurau) 6th November and Greendale Spring Meet - 19/20th November

These two meets are also coming up and the flyers are on this website under calendar section.  Eligibility sheets for the SwimHB meet will be out soon after the Grand Prix entries have been sorted out.

Please note:  For the SwimHB meet, swimmers MUST BE registered with SwimNZ.

For the Greendale meet, non-registered swimmers can ONLY swim 25 & 50m events.

Grand Prix - Rotorua 8-9th October

Once the BOP Champs have been swum, those swimmers who are in the top 16-20 will be eligible to swim at the Grand prix finals in Rotorua on the 8th & 9th October.  As soon as we have those results, Andy will let swimmers know who has qualified and then entries will be done VERY quickly - probably by the end of the week after BOP.  Katrien is away so Jo Karlsson will be dealing with these entries.

BOP Champs - 23,24 & 25th September

Good luck to the team travelling to BOP Winter Champs next weekend.  It will be a very busy and long weekend for both the swimmers and managers/coach but we hope there are some great times swum.  Sue Hewitt has sent out an information sheet AND a food sheet.  Please make sure you have the food you have been put down to bring, not forgetting your own pool snacks.

Money & entry fees should be paid by this Wednesday (21st Sept) please.

Long training jackets / hoodies / Club togs

The order for the long training jackets is going in on Monday 19th.  It will probably be approx 4 - 6 weeks till delivery but I will keep you informed.

The hoodies have arrived and been given out - they look fantastic and are very warm!!  Lisa Burns is already taking more orders from those who didn't order the first time so if you wish to order a hoodie then please phone or email Lisa Burns.

Lisa is also gathering orders for the club togs - again these are looking fantastic and from all reports are very comfortable, especially the thin strap (silique) togs.  The thicker strap togs (racer back) appear to be smaller than the sizing kit and there are a couple still available if anyone wants to check with Lisa and see what is available.

HB Winter Champs

Attached here are the results by event for the HB Winter Champs and attached here are the age group winners.  Congratulations to the following age group winners:

Kenah Abraham-Smith - Girls 10 years;  Elzivor Brown - Boys 11 years and Naomi Smit - Girls 14 years.

Also a huge congratulations to Naomi Smit for being named Junior Swimmer of the Year for HBPB region.  Fantastic effort Naomi and well deserved.

We also won 2 relay trophies - Female Open 4 x 50m Medley relay and Female 15 & Under 4 x 50m freestyle relay.  Congratulations to those swimmers as well.

                   ----oooo0000oooo----

SwimNZ Short Course Champs

Congratulations to the team who swam at the recent Short Course Nationals:

Naomi Smit - 4 GOLD medals (50 back & 100 back; 50 free & 100 free).  Fantastic swimming Naomi!!

Emily Roberts (despite swimming with impacted wisdom teeth) swam right on her PB's and made the final in 200 back finishing 7th.

Alexia Hinton - first time at an Age Group Nationals event and just missed the 100 fly final but made the 200 back final finishing 10th.

Sam Kettle - a 12 second PB in 1500 free and an 11 second PB in 400IM!!  Swam the first leg of the regional medley relay and set a new PB in 50 back for himself.  Way to go Sam!!

HB Summer Champs (12 & unders ONLY)

The date has been set for the HB Summer Champs - 21 & 22nd Jan 2012.  If you are wanting to book accommodation then now that you have the dates I suggest you get on to it quickly.

This is the 'pinnacle event' locally for our 12 & under swimmers and the last chance for them to qualify events for NZ Junior Champs, so it is an important meet for them to attend.

Just a reminder that this event is for 12 & under swimmers ONLY - there will be NO events for 12 & over swimmers.

HB Winter Champs / BOP Champs / Swim HB Waipukurau Meet & Greendale Spring Meet

Flyers for ALL the above meets have been sent to everyone via email AND are in the calendar section of this website.

Eligibility sheets for HB Winters will be up tomorrow (Mon 15th) on the noticeboard at the pool and other eligibility sheets will be posted when the events file is available.

East Coast Champs - 26/27th August

Entries for this event have closed and a confirmed entry report will be sent out on Tuesday - after any alterations have been made.

Hoodies / Long Training Jackets

I have sent the flyer and information regarding the hoodies to everyone today via email.  If you wish to order one then please contact Lisa Burns - her contact details are on the flyer AND email.  They ARE NOT a 'must have' item of uniform and it is entirely up to each family.

Don't forget if you wish to order a long training jacket then please also see Lisa Burns.

                     ----oooo0000oooo----

Long training jackets

We are considering putting another order in for the long blue training jackets in the next couple of months or so.  If you would like to order one, then again put your name down in the uniform book (as below) and we will let you know when we're going to order them.

The jackets are $100 + GST ($115) PLUS a share of the courier fee - usually about $2- $3 per jacket.

Hoodies

We are aware that the hoodies have not progressed any further but that has been a conscious decision by the Committee as we felt that we were asking parents for lots of money for club togs, SwimNZ fees, meet entry fees etc etc, so we put the hoodies on the back burner for a few weeks.  We will get them underway in the next month or so but if you are interested, put your name down in the uniform book - ask Lisa Burns, Meryn, Brenda or Jo Karlsson.  I will send an email to everyone giving sizes shortly.

BOP Champs - 23/24 & 25th September

This meet is for A, B & Jnr Nats squads only.  If you are planning on going to this meet, you have to pay a $50 deposit (put in an envelope in the entries box with your name etc on it) and let Andy know.  This deposit is so that we can try and book accommodation for everyone as a team and also to commit people to going.  Any questions, contact Andy or Meryn.

East Coast Champs - 26/27th August

Eligibility sheets are up on the noticeboard.  Please get your entries done ASAP as our entries close on the 12th August so that Katriene has time to load them and get them out to everyone for checking BEFORE they have to go to Aquahawks.  Also please read the conditions on the flyer carefully, as it does state that there will be NO REFUNDS once psych sheets are out!!

We also have to provide 1 official per 4 swimmers so we will be asking parents to step up and officiate in some way - especially as both meets are run at the same time in different pools.

Club togs

The club togs have arrived and they look fantastic.  If you haven't got your pair yet but you did order one, then see Meryn at the pool - unfortunately you must pay for your togs before you pick them up.  We are going to be the best dressed team at the East Coast Champs!!

That weekend I need to get a photograph of the Juniors in their togs and the Seniors in theirs - Aquadiva in Australia would like to have a photograph of us in them.  They are getting a number of clubs giving very favourable comments on our design and colours.  Well done to Brenda for organising this!!

Greerton & Hamilton Meets - NZ Record to Naomi!

Well done to those swimmers who went away to these two meets.  Some wonderful PB's from everybody, over 85% PB's and congratulations to Naomi Smit for breaking a NZ record again in the 50m free.  This record seems to be 'owned' by Naomi at the moment.  Along with the NZ record, Naomi also set 3 new HBPB records - fantastic effort.

                     ----oooo0000oooo----

Club togs

The order will be going to Australia in the next day or so and we hope to have some idea of timeline soon.  Please ensure that the money for the togs is put into the entries box at the pool in an envelope with your child's name on it and what the money is for.  Please make any cheques out to Heretaunga Swimming Club.

We will be purchasing a couple of extra pairs however it won't be many.  The next time we order togs we must have a minimum of 20 pairs ordered

Hoodies

We are in the process of sourcing some hoodies for the swimmers to have IF THEY WANT.  It is not a 'must have' as part of the club uniform but there are occasions when the swimmers want something over their uniform but the long training jackets are too hot.  We hope to be able to let you know more within the next couple of weeks.

They will be grey marle with navy logo on the front (like our uniform shirts) and the word 'Sundevils' down 1 sleeve.  If you want, your child's name can be printed on the lower back but that is entirely up to parents.  We will let you know more as soon as we have the information.

Greerton / Hamilton meets

Entries for these meets close today (29th June) so please fill in the eligibility sheets on the noticeboard at the pool.

The next meets after these will be NZ Short Course Champs (for those qualified swimmers only) and then East Coast Champs on 26/27th August.  Flyer for the East Coast Champs is under the calendar section - so please have a look there.

Sundevils AGM / Chairman's Report

Sundevils held their AGM last night (Tues 28th June) and Leonard's Chairman's report is attached here for all to read.

We have had a very successful year and we need to keep building on that.  You will see from Leonard's report that the bulk of our swimmers are in the 12 & under age group and he believes that in the next 3-5 years Sundevils will be a real force to be reckoned with in HB & NZ swimming.

Keep up the good work everyone, especially if we can get some new blood onto the committee and get more parents stepping up and becoming officials.

We decided at the AGM to increase our club membership fee to $60 + $5 admin fee from 1st April 2012.  So NEXT YEAR, this increase will come into force.  We have not increased our club membership fee for at least 4 years and on checking clubs in other parts of the country and locally, we believe it is time that we did so.

Design Your Own Meet

Well done to everyone who swam so well last weekend.  Congratulations to Kenah Abraham-Smith who swam a fantastic 200m breaststroke and qualified for Juniors Nationals by over 4 seconds and also to Naomi Smit who broke the HBPB record for 14yr girls 100m freestyle - the new record is 59.90!!  Fantastic swimming both of you.

Thanks very much to all those parents who stepped up as timekeepers, IOT's, marshall's, computer operators, referees and team managers.  It was very heartening to see all the Sundevils parents making sure that our meet went well - special thanks to those parents who timekept, IOT'd or referreed for the very first time!  See it's not so scary after all.

We still need parents, once you have your confidence, to move through from timekeeping to IOT'ng and then to starter and referee.  Most of our officials at the moment are parents of swimmers who are 13 & over - once our kids stop swimming you parents of younger swimmers will be left without any officials so please, make some effort to become involved as an official.  We have really good people who are more than happy to help you through the process and get you qualified.  It is not scary and if we don't do this then it will be YOUR child that is disadvantaged.

Club fees / SwimNZ fees

All club membership fees of $50 + $5 admin fee should have been paid by now.

SwimNZ fees  of $78.00 are due 1st July 2011.  The Club keeps none of this fee,  it is all passed on to SwimHB & SwimNZ.  Please get your money for this into the entries box at the pool ASAP - put in an envelope with your child's name on it and what the money is for - so that we don't get it mixed up with uniforms or meet entry fees.  If paying by cheque please make the cheque out to Heretaunga Swimming Club.

Aquahawks Relay Meet - Sunday 29th May

We have not yet received the flyer for this meet so I cannot give you any details on it. such as age groups etc (for relay teams).  As soon as it arrives I will send it out and put it in the calendar section - however it would pay to start organising your own teams (in conjuction with your squad coach).

The club will not be organising teams or personnel, it is up to swimmers to organise their own teams with the help & guidance of coaches - so please talk to your coach.

Club fees

These will be sent out shortly, we are just awaiting an updated squad list from the Trust and as soon as we have that then invoices will be sent out to those yet to pay - however remember that if you are NOT a financial member, you cannot swim in any meets.

The first meeting coming up is the Aquahawks Relay meet on 29th May.

Greerton Winter Meet - 15, 16 & 17th July (first weekend of school holidays - 13 & over swimmers only)

The flyer for this meet is in the calendar section of the website.   Please let Andy know if you are intending to go to this meet so that we have some idea of numbers.  This is NOT designated a team meet so you can stay with friends/family etc however if anyone is looking for a bed please let Andy or Meryn know and we can fit you in with others that are going.

This is the last chance to qualify for NZ Short Course meet in early August.

Hamilton Winter Meet - 22, 23 & 24th July (middle weekend of school holidays -12 & under swimmers only)

The flyer for this meet is in the calendar section of this website.  Please let Andy know if you are intending to go to this meet so that we have some idea of numbers and we can start to look at booking accommodation.  He would like swimmers to travel & stay as a team but it does depend on available accommodation and cost etc.

Prize Giving

Hope everyone had a great afternoon at the prize giving.  We had over 150 people there and it was I think, the best prize giving we've had so far.  Our guest speaker had some words of wisdom, both for parents and swimmers and I hope that everyone took on board what she had to say.

Attached here is a list of trophy winners.  I am just awaiting the age group winners list and will have that up shortly.

Club Champs results

Attached here is the results of the club champs by event.  The times that you obtained on the night are able to be used as your 'best time' if you need qualifying times.

                   ----oooo0000oooo----

Prizegiving - Sunday 1st May 2011 at 12noon

Just a reminder that our prizegiving is on Sunday 1st May at 12noon at the Hastings Rugby & Sports Club in Otene Road, Hastings.  Final day for tickets is Tuesday 26th April, after that I will be giving numbers to the caterer so it will be too late.

Club fees

Thanks to everyone who paid their club fees on Club Champs night.  For those who forgot their chequebook or weren't at club champs etc, invoices will be sent in the mail shortly.  Please put your cheque for club fees and registration form in an envelope and put in the entries box at the pool.  Please make all cheques out to:  HERETAUNGA SWIMMING CLUB.  If you are NOT a financial member then you cannot enter any meets.

Club fees are $50 per swimmer + $5.00 per swimmer admin fee.  These fees are your yearly subscription/membership fees to the club - DO NOT get them confused with your monthly squad fees!

SwimNZ affiliation fees are NOT due until 1st July - please DO NOT pay them until then.  I will let everyone know closer to when they are due.

Winter Calendar

Attached here is the calendar for the next few months.  You will see that there is no date yet for our 'Design Your Own Meet'.  We are hoping to confirm that date in the next 2 weeks - everyone will be emailed with the confirmed date when it has been decided.

The only flyers I have so far are for the East Coast Champs & the Greerton Winter meet.  Their flyers can be accessed through the calendar part of this website.   The calendar section has also been updated with all of the meets.

Holiday Break

I hope everyone is enjoying their break these holidays - I know I'm pleased to be away from the pool for a while!  Don't forget there is some training from Tues 26th - Friday 29th (email has already been sent to everyone outlining what are the training times etc).  Otherwise we'll see everyone back at the pool during the first week of term.

Club Champs

Congratulations to everyone who swam on Friday 15th - what a great turnout with approx 90 swimmers attending - well done!!  Also a great turn-out from parents to help officiate.  The results from club champs will be put on the website AFTER prizegiving - we like to keep some surprises!

National Results

Attached here are the results for the swimmers who attended National meets this year ie: NAGS; Div2 & NZ Juniors.  I hope I have the complete list - if I have missed a result then it is my mistake and please let me know.  I have tried to ensure I got everyone's results off the SwimNZ website.

                   -----oooo0000oooo-----

CONGRATULATIONS NAOMI SMIT - 2 NZ RECORDS!!

Well done to Naomi Smit at the recent National Age Group Champs (NAGS) for setting 2 NZ records.   Naomi set a new record in the 50 free & 50 back.  Fantastic effort Naomi and it certainly makes getting up early in the morning worthwhile.

As part of this wonderful effort, Naomi has been selected in the Virtual NZ Team to compete at the Australian Age Group Champs in Aussie from Monday 18th April.

Naomi and Emily Roberts have also been selected to attend the 'Top Age Group Camp' at the Millenium Institute of Sport in Auckland from the 13-15th May.  Well done to both of them and as Naomi was the top ranked female swimmer, Andy has also been selected to attend the camp.

This is great exposure for Sundevils and just shows that we are as good as anyone out there!!

I will have a full wrap-up of the results for NZ Jnrs, Div2 & NAGS as soon as I can confirm I have everyone's results.  Hopefully they will be completed by the end of the weekend.

Up & Comers - Sunday 27th March

Good luck to everyone swimming on Sunday.  Sundevils have 65 swimmers attending which is fantastic.  Good luck to the Managers and coaches as well!!

Club Champs - Friday 15th April

Attached here is the club champs flyer.   Please email your entries to Meryn as Jo's computer is out of action at the moment.  Entries close 8th April - remember you can only enter a maximum of 6 events.

Prizegiving

Sunday 1st May 12noon.  Venue still to be confirmed but hope that we will be able to confirm next week.

                      -----oooo0000oooo-----

Other stuff!!

It's a very busy time for swimmers and the Club at the moment as you can see but we are also not forgetting the younger swimmers.  We hope to run a time trial for C Squad & Little Devils in March but the date has yet to be confirmed.  Once we find an available night, I will email it out.

We will also have the SwimHB Up & Comers Meet in March, but I haven't had a date confirmed yet either.

Club champs will be Friday 15th April (last day of term 1) and then prizegiving will be Sunday 1st May.  We just have to confirm the venue for prizegiving and then we can confirm everything.

HB Secondary Schools / HB Intermediate Schools

We are running the HBSS again this year.  It is on Tuesday 8th March, warm-up at 5.30pm; manager's meeting at 5.40pm & racing starts at 6pm.  We will need everyone's help for various jobs so please if you can come down to give us a hand would be great.

This year for the first time we are also running the HB Yr 7 & 8 Champs (Intermediate Schools).  This will be on Tuesday 5th April - same times as above.  Again we will need helpers so please give us a couple of hours of your time.

Both these events are very important for us as fundraisers and it means that we are not having to sell raffle tickets or chocolates during the year.   They are also alot of fun and a good chance for you to help out with timekeeping or learn other officiating at meets where the pressure is not quite so intense.

Div2 Champs - 16 - 19th March

And last but not least, good luck to those going to Div2 in Christchurch on the 15th March:  Danielle Rafferty; Alexia Hinton & Thomas Hulena.  There are another 2 swimmers who have yet to confirm their entries but we hope that they will both get some more races qualified in P/Nth next weekend and we would love to see them on the team.

NAGS (National Age Group Champs) - 1-5th March

Good luck also to the team going to NAGS in Wellington on the 28th February:  Sam Kettle; Anna Hewitt; Alice Trow; Naomi Smit; Emily Roberts and Emma Godwin.  We hope that you also swim well and we know that you'll swim to the best of your ability and do the Club proud.

NZ Junior Champs - 19/20th February

Good luck to the team going to NZ Juniors in Wellington on Friday 18th February:  Koene Smit; Jim Missen; Elzivor Brown; Tuhono Matairangi; Jon Karlsson; Sam Wylie; Jadah Elers and Emily Burton.  Congratulations for qualifying in the first place and good luck for some great PB's.

CSNZ Hamilton Meet

Well done to the 12 swimmers who went to Hamilton, some great swims, excellent PB's and everyone had a good time, except for the 5 1/2hr drive home on Sunday night!!  Nah, even that was ok .....

Congratulations to Emma Godwin who qualified 4 races for NAGS (50m fly, free & back & 100m back); Anna Hewitt for qualifying 50 fly for NAGS; Sam Kettle for taking 17 seconds off his 1500m free time - you may yet have to shave down Sam; Alexia Hinton for taking off 5.5 seconds from her 100m fly time and qualifying another race for Div2; Yahaira Williams for taking nearly 6 seconds off her 100m free time; Thomas Hulena for qualifying another 3 races for Div2 and Sam Godwin for losing his bet but taking the punishment (having both his legs waxed from the knee down) like a man!!

                     -----oooo0000oooo-----

Welcome back!

Hi all, Happy New Year to everyone and I hope you all enjoyed plenty of relaxing times with family & friends and have had a break from the pool.  Following are a few things for everyone to take note of:

NZ Open Water Champs

Congratulations to Sam Kettle for competing in the recent NZ Open Water Champs in Taupo.  Sam swam the 5k event and finished a fantastic 13th place in his age group against a very high level of competition.  Well done Sam, fantastic effort for your first go at such an event.  Perhaps we have another Phillip Rush in our midst!!

CSNZ Hamilton Summer Champs

Those swimmers going please see Andy by Wed 26th Jan in order to select your events.  Those swimmers NOT going please also see Andy anyway.

I must have confirmed names to me by Friday 21st Jan (this Friday) so that we can give final numbers to our accommodation place the following week and it will also allow the Club to organise transport etc.

Gisborne Summer Champs & Wellington Summer Champs

Good luck to everyone competing in Gisborne & Wellington this weekend.  I look forward to hearing about some great times being done and perhaps a few more qualifiers for various national meets coming up.

Palmerston North meet - Sun 27th Feb

Just a reminder that this meet is coming up and click here to view the flyer.  Jo has to have entries in by Mon 14th Feb so our entry close off date will be Wed 9th Feb.

Jo will have eligibility sheets up at Flaxmere soon, so please ensure you mark them if you are going to attend this meet.

Changes in training venues/times next week (Mon 24th)

Just a reminder that everyone was sent an email on Monday (17th) about the changes to training times next week as Flaxmere will be back in operation.

If you are not sure or didn't receive the email, contact Meryn and she will forward it to you.

                   -----oooo0000oooo-----

Gisborne Summer Champs - 12 & Under

Eligibility sheets are on the board for these and I will remove them on Thurs 23rd December.  I know that it's not alot of time but we have to have entries to Gisborne early in January just after Jo gets back from holiday so please make sure your entries are done.

Morning training will re-commence on Thursday 6th January - NOTE THE NEW TIME - 7 - 9am.  Trainings will then continue as above from then on.

We will be back at Flaxmere on Mon 23rd January with an afternoon session - there will be NO MORNING TRAINING on 23rd Jan as seniors will still be in Wellington and juniors will have just raced in Gisborne.

Even though all other training will return to Flaxmere, National & Development squads (A & B) will still train at Frimley pool on Tues & Thurs from 4pm until late Feb (weather dependent).  Keep an eye on your emails!

Fun night - Thursday 23rd December - 5pm

We will have a fun night on Thursday 23rd December for everyone from 5pm.  It will not run for long - approx 1hr but we will have abit of fun.  There'll be lots of relays and don't forget the 'celebrity relay' - A squad v. Andy's team v. committee team v. 'guest' team.  This will be around 5.30pm so make sure you're there to watch - should be lots of fun!!

National & Development squads (A & B squads) will train from 4 - 5pm but there is no training for all other squads.

Club Photo

I have seen and named the first proof and sent it back to the photographer.  I am awaiting the final proof and then we can get them printed.  Unfortunately the photographer got called to Christchurch last week but I am keeping my fingers crossed that we MAY get them by Thursday 23rd but we'll have to wait and see.

Xmas Party

What a fantastic day and great turn out from everyone.  I hope all enjoyed themselves even though we had abit of a problem with only 1 bbq to cook for 130 people on!  Never mind, it got done and there seemed to be enough for everyone - we even fed the surf club guys so there must have been heaps.

Thanks to Pak-n-Save for their generous donation and also to Brenda & Lisa Hulena for doing the shopping; Leonard for organising the venue and keeping the kids on the beach occupied and Julie, Jo Menzies, Gina, Meryn, Vanessa and Jo Karlsson for making salads & cleaning up and Arona, Trevor and James for cooking all the meat.  If I have forgotten anyone I apologise it was not intentional.

                    -----oooo0000oooo-----

New Sponsor - Hastings Pak-n-Save

Welcome on board to a new sponsor, Hastings Pak-n-Save for their generous donation towards the Xmas party on Sunday 12th Dec.  Fantastic support and it's nice to have a new sponsor's logo to put on our website.  We look forward to their support and us supporting them.

Greendale Meet - Sunday 21st November

Well done everyone, what a fantastic number of entries - we have 67 swimmers attending the Greendale meet.  There will be some new swimmers who may not know the ropes so please the older swimmers help them out if there are some looking abit lost.  This size team will mean 2 managers per session so make sure you know who the managers are.

Don't forget your team uniform, shoes for your feet, along with snacks & water.  There is only a 1hr break between sessions so bring your lunch.

Warm-up for 11 & overs is at 7.30am.  For 10 & unders is 8.05am.

Comet Meet - 4/5th December

Entry sheets are up on the noticeboard.  Please highlight those events you wish to swim.  Jo will be removing them next week.

Xmas training

An email was sent last night outlining the training sessions over Xmas.  If you have any queries, then please contact Andy or Meryn.

Sundevil Racing caps

We are having alot of caps break and we are sending some broken ones back to the maker to see if there is a fault, HOWEVER I have noticed that there are lots of swimmers wearing their racing caps in training.  It is preferable that you wear other caps for training so that your racing cap lasts longer.   If you do wear it for training, just like your togs, please rinse the cap with cold water, DON'T leave them in your bag each day.  The chlorine does break the cap down just like it makes togs saggy so it could be that people aren't taking care of their caps.

Xmas Party - Sunday 12th December 2010 2pm at OBK Clubrooms, Ocean Beach

Our end of year party will be held as above.  The Club will supply bbq meat, salads, buns and ice-cream.  Our fantastic sponsor, Primo, will supply drinks for the kids.  Parents can bring their own refreshments - bearing in mind you must drive there and back!

We had an absolute ball last year, who could forget Arona & Tim diving for the baton in the sand!  Or what happened to the eggs after the egg & spoon race ....... ask Jon Karlsson about David Benson's new shampoo mixture!!

It is a wonderful way to end the year and a good chance for parents to meet up and talk other than at the pool.  Please let Meryn know via email if you are attending as we MUST KNOW NUMBERS for catering purposes.  Siblings are more than welcome as well - but please don't just turn up.  We have hungry kids and there isn't usually much food left over!  I would hate anyone to miss out.

Comet Meet - 4th & 5th December

The Comet meet is coming up quickly.  Jo will have entry sheets up on the board next week.  As usual, highlight the events you wish to swim.

Please note that it appears that the campground is full so if you haven't booked your accommodation yet then you will need to look elsewhere.

We will be running a competition during this meet - a baby photo competition so make sure you get your entry sheets during the Saturday afternoon session!  It will be great fun and I look forward to seeing your answers!

Club Photo - Sunday 28th November 5.30pm - Frimley Pool

The club photo will be taken on Sunday 28th November at 5.30pm.  Please make sure you are at FRIMLEY POOL by approx 5.20pm so that we can get the photo taken without too much mucking around.  We have approx 35 - 45 new members this year so please make every effort to attend so that we can have a great photo to put up on the wall and for everyone to keep.  The photo is for ALL SQUADS.

Please wear your new club t-shirts and blue shorts.  We will have SOME spare shirts available for those who don't have the new shirts.

I will be sending out order forms to every family next week (week beginning 15th Nov) so please make sure you fill these in and bring to the photo session.  Unfortunately, no sheet no order.  Payment is also required with the orders - details on the order sheet.

Greendale Meet - Sunday 21st November

Entries closed for this meet tonight (Friday 12th).  Jo will be sending out the entry check sheet for everyone to check that their entries are correct.  Any changes to be with Jo by Sunday 14th November 1pm.  It looks like we'll have a huge team of 60 swimmers - fantastic effort.

As usual we will need parent helpers for timekeepers, IOT's etc so please make yourself available.

Don't forget even though this is the Greendale Meet, it is held at OUR POOL.  Warm-up at 8am and racing starts at 8.30am.

Waipukurau Meet

Attached here are the results from the SwimHB Waipukurau Meet last Sunday.  Congratulations to all those that swam and there seemed to be plenty of medals being worn home!!  Well done everyone.  We looked the best, swam the best and acted the best.  What a great team!

 Comet Meet - 4/5th December 2010

I have received the flyer for the Comet meet.  Click here to view it.  You can also access it through the calendar section or there will be a copy on the upstairs noticeboard at the pool.

This is a great meet and a good way for the younger swimmers to have a go at a long course meet (50m pool).

Andy would like to take a big team to this meet so book it into your diaries and organise your accommodation.  It is only 1 night's accommodation as it doesn't start until Saturday afternoon and finishes around 1-2pm on the Sunday afternoon (depending on entries).

East Coast Champs

Well done to everyone over the weekend.  Some great swims and times were done.  We hope everyone enjoyed themselves, even if the Juniors were abit squashed in.  Thanks to all the parents who stepped up as managers, timekeepers or some other official capacity.  We really appreciate your time and effort.

Some of the seniors had their first taste of self-marshalling and despite initial misgivings it went really well.  The swimmers were quite happy with looking after themselves and getting themselves to their respective races on time.  Several commented on how much more relaxed marshalling area was - and how much less crowded it was - as swimmers were only going up 3-4 races ahead of their own - as opposed to 6 - 10 races ahead.

Central Swimming - Grand Prix - Taupo 4/5th September

Last weekend approx 8 swimmers swam at the BOP Champs in order to qualify for the Central Swim Grand Prix finals which are to be held in Taupo on 4th & 5th September.  The Grand Prix finals are only for the top 16 swimmers in the region in each event regardless of age - so open age groups - except for the long distance (800 & 1500) where they only take the top 8 swimmers.  After some fantastic swims over the weekend we have had the following swimmers qualify and the races they will be swimming:

1:  Katherine Penny  -  800free; 400free and 50 back
2:  Anna Hewitt  -  50breast; 100breast; 100IM
3:  Naomi Smi  -  50free; 100free; 50back & 100back
4:  Sam Kettle - 200back; 400IM; 1500free & 200IM
5:  Emily Roberts - 50back; 100back; 200back & 200IM

Congratulations to these swimmers and if you want to see some top swimmers from the Central area of NZ then go to Taupo in 2 weeks and see the action.  This will be a main build-up event for National Age Groups and also National Open Champs in November.

The Little Devils squad now has two liaison people to help communication between the parents and committee.  Robyn Ward (mother of Kody) and Vanessa Abraham-Smith (mother of Cullen & Kenah) have kindly offered their services and have joined the committee.  Queries about anything to do with the Club should be directed to Robyn & Vanessa and if they don't know they will certainly find out.  You can still approach any Committee member if Robyn or Vanessa are unavailable so there should be plenty of people around to help you.
