HERETAUNGA SUNDEVILS SWIMMING CLUB BACKGROUND

       

The Heretaunga Swimming Club is one of New Zealand’s oldest swimming clubs. Established in Hastings in 1908 it was for a long time a very important part of the Hastings sporting and social fabric. In 1989 the club unfortunately went into recess.

However in 1998 a group of swimming enthusiasts, who could see the need for competitive swimming to be re-established in Hastings got together and reformed The Heretaunga Swimming Club (known as Sundevils)

The Sundevils currently have over 110 registered swimmers under the direction of new Head Coach, Andrew McLay

Milestones:

 

  • Top club at the Hawkes Bay/Poverty Bay – Winter and Summer Championships 2004 & 2005
  • 2nd overall at NZ Age Group and NZ Youth Open Championships 2005
  • 21 NZ Titles in 2005
  • 7 Swimmers selected for NZ Representation teams over last 12 months
  • 4 Swimmers achieved NZ squad times
  • Then Sundevil coach, Jon Winter, selected to coach the NZ Youth Olympics and Trans Tasman NZ Teams
  • August 2005 - Matt Thomas selected for World Student Games in Turkey
  • August 2005 - Jon Winter selected as coach for Japan Junior Olympic Cup in Tokyo
  • August 2005 - Tim Dawson,Daniel Bell and Jordyn Mahanga Selected to compete in Japan Junior Olympic Cup in Tokyo
  • Over 500 Hawkes Bay/Poverty Bay records broken since 1998
  • 2006 - Daniel Bell, Jordyn Mahanga selected forTrans Tasman Series
  • 2006 - Katie Bone, Matt Thomas selected for Oceania Champs, Cairns
  • 2006 - Katie Bone, Matt Thomas, Tim Dawson seleted for NZ Next Wave Squad, Noosa
  • 2007 - Daniel Bell & Clair Benson selected for Youth Olympics, Sydney
  • 2007 - Clair Benson & Chris Benson selected for Trans Tasman Series
